Career Pathways and Exploration Programs

The path to success is never a straight line. Exploring all the options available to help achieve your goals can ensure you make the best decision for your future.

Four-Year University

Attending a four-year university is a desirable option for those who plan to pursue careers for which a Bachelor’s Degree is required. This path is also a necessary first step if you plan to go on to earn a Master’s or Doctorate degree.
Selecting the best four-year university for you will be a personal choice based on the academic programs offered, cost of attendance and expected financial assistance, as well as student life and support services offered by the universities you are considering. Take the time to carefully evaluate your options to find the university that best aligns with your goals and needs.

The California State Universities

23 campuses grant bachelor's and master's degrees. The top 33% of California's high school graduates are eligible for CSU.

Independent/Private Colleges and Universities

Nearly 80 WASC-accredited degree-granting, nonprofit independent colleges serve California.

Community College

Studying at your local community college is a wonderful option if you are looking to achieve an Associate’s Degree or planning to transfer to a four-year institution. Many career paths do not require a four-year degree, so gaining your degree from a community college will allow you to gain the knowledge and skills needed for these types of careers in less time.

If your desired career does require a degree from a four-year university or beyond, the transfer track from a community college to a four-year school can help you save on the cost of tuition and fees while you earn general education and major preparation credits for transfer.

For high school students, dual or concurrent enrollment at a community college provides an excellent opportunity to get ahead academically. You can complete A-G courses, take advanced classes to challenge yourself, and even earn college credits before graduating high school. These courses not only strengthen your college applications but also help you develop new skills and get a feel for college-level coursework, all while still in high school.

With more than 2.1 million students at 115 colleges, California Community Colleges are the largest system of higher education in the country with 116 colleges granting certificates and associate degrees, as well as providing transferable lower-division coursework for UC and CSU.

CCCApply is your online gateway to the California Community Colleges. Through this website you can apply online to most of the California Community Colleges. Although the California Community Colleges enroll students year-round, you should still apply as early as possible.

Community Based Organizations

Within your community, you’ll find support services designed to help you on your path to higher education and beyond. Community based organizations (CBOs) are a wonderful nonprofit resource for students and families seeking advice on career paths, financial aid, applying to colleges, and more.
